This special lot is sourced from smallholders in Riripa village, nestled in the highlands of West Arsi, where coffee is cultivated at elevations of 1,900 to 2,200 meters, which is considered extreme height by coffee standards. The region's diverse microclimates and rich soil create a unique environment, allowing the coffee shrubs to flourish and produce beans with exceptional sweetness and complexity.

West Arsi’s strength lies in its diversity of profiles, shaped by the varying soil types and microclimates across the region. Each farmer in Riripa cultivates a mix of unique landrace varieties, often found only on their specific plots. When these distinct varieties are blended at the local cooperative, the result is a coffee that embodies the intricate plant genetics of the area.

Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, is home to more species of coffee plants than anywhere else on earth, much of it still growing wild and undiscovered. This coffee is all Arabica, with over 150 varieties commercially cultivated. Traditionally labeled as "heirloom varietals," these unique species contribute to the profound complexity of Ethiopian coffee. In West Arsi, coffee is often grown at high elevations, above 6,000 feet, where the cool climate means slower coffee fruit development, and further enhances its distinctive flavors.
